Ventura County RV parking flap creates new rules

The folk group, America, sang: "Ventura Highway in the sunshine Where the days are longer The nights are stronger than moonshine You're gonna go I know" Today there are plenty of folks that say "you're not going fast enough!" It has nothing to do with slow-drivers, but rather, RVers who are overstaying their welcome along Ventura County's Rincon Parkway, a central coast wonderland where you can park your rig right along the oceanside.

Dozens of "pay to park" spaces for self-contained RVs are right along the edge of the Rincon Parkway. The hang up: Folks have conspired together to swap parking spots to legally stay longer than a single space would allow for. Some groups are allegedly leasing out public RV spaces to other RVers.

In a move that many have told the local news media is long overdue, county officials are finally moving to rein in the 'squatters,' and make the Rincon available to more folks. In a change of law, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors has ruled that a rig can only stay along the Rincon Parkway for 7 days, then be off the parkway for 14, all this during the area high season of April 1 through October 31. Overstay your permit, plan on forking over a $180 fine.
