Ghosts roam the streets of Calico

Just ten miles north of Barstow, Calico Ghost Town was once a significant silver mining town founded in 1881. Now tourism rules and Calico has countless shops, a museum, and actors in period costumes recreating the past with stagecoach rides and street gunfights.

The restored mining town, where you can explore all the nooks and crannies of dusty old buildings, also hosts special events, such as a Cowboy Action Shooting, Civil War reenactment, Spring Festival, Calico Days, and Calico Heritage Fest.

Full-service campsites and tent sites are available from $18. Calico is open daily with a general admission fee of $6. But beware, Calico Ghost Town has a sinister reputation for real ghosts that roam the streets after sunset and you can take a ghost tour to experience its unnatural sightings.
