Ideal winter temps at the Salton Sea State Recreation Area

As many as four million birds use the Salton Sea every day during the spring and fall migrations, and Over 400 different species have been identified. Besides its attraction to birdwatchers from around the world, fishermen of all ages regularly catch buckets full of Tilapia from shore, of which there is no limit. There is no better place to introduce children to fishing. Here they will actually catch them. Lots, and lots of them.

The Salton Sea State Recreation Area on the northeast side of the lake is a unique facility, with winter daytime temperatures here below sea level in the high seventies, dipping into the fifties at night. All forms of water recreation flourish: boating, fishing, swimming, and personal water craft use.

Over 1500 campsites are available, from lakeside sites to full hook-ups, and the visitor center provides bird lists, historical, and ecological information.
From Indio drive 23 miles south on Highway 111.
