Seacliff State Beach campground evacuated due to high surf

A winter storm passing through California's Monterey Bay area prompted lifeguards at Santa Cruz County beaches to issue high wave and surf warnings, warning surfers to stay out of the water. The storm was predicted to produce a 20-foot or higher surf.

RVers at Seacliff State Beach were urged to leave the campground Tuesday with warnings that the high surf could inundate the campground. The waves were expected to diminish by Thursday.

Another storm, possibly the largest since October, is expected next week.
