A Halloween trick and treat: Colonel Allensworth SHP Ghost Tours

On October 29th, Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park will offer a lantern light ghost tour of the century old town of Allensworth. The Park preserves the only town in California founded, built, and populated by African Americans and is the only State Park in Tulare County.

While walking through the inky darkness with the creatures of the night, visitors will hear stories of unexplained noises and strange happenings in and around the historic buildings. The Porterville Ghost Society will be available to show how their equipment and devices are used to detect paranormal activity attached to the home of Colonel Allensworth along with other homes of the community. This will be a unique experience for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of this isolated town and has a desire to do something a little out of the ordinary.

The tours will begin at 8:30pm and 10:30pm. Visitors will meet at the visitor center parking lot. Wear good walking shoes, bring water, and layered clothing, just in case you feel a “chill”. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own flashlights and a vivid imagination. There will be a Halloween treat at the end of the tour at the historic Allensworth hotel. These are walking tours that will take approximately 90 minutes. Tour fees are $10.00 per person, children 12 and under are free. Fees will be collected at the entrance station upon arrival. For questions, directions, or more information, please contact the park (see below).
