Paso Robles is a quiet country town on Route 101 halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. With its hot, dry climate, it has made a name for itself as a grape growing and wine making area, expanding from 35 wineries ten years ago to180+ bonded wineries today.
About two-thirds of Paso Robles wineries produce less than 5,000 cases as more than 95% of the region’s brands are family owned and operated.
In addition to wineries with estate vineyards, there are nearly 120 Paso Robles Wine Country grape growers who sell their fruit to wineries both within and outside the Paso Robles AVA.
The most widely planted varieties in the Paso Robles area are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay, which account for 80% of the Paso Robles AVA production.
Touring Paso Robles wineries is an ideal stop for RVers traveling between California's two major cities. You can learn more about Paso Robles wines at their website and download a map of the wineries here.
The Paso Robles RV Ranch (398 Exline Road), just off Hwy 101 on a 6 acre semi-secluded setting overlooking a panoramic view of the Salinas Valley, is a logical layover. They have 70 20/30/50 amp sites and you can charge your electrical vehicle dinghy at your campsite for $10.
