Finding California's big trees: Easy RV vacations

Looking for giant trees? Writing in the Modesto Bee, Adam Blauert mentions some easy to find Sequoia trees in or near the Sequoia National Monument. Here's a recap of his findings:

Trail of 100 Giants: An easy, 1.3-mile paved loop trail among the Long Meadow Grove giant sequoias is accessible to all visitors regardless of ability or mobility. Ten miles south of Quaking Aspen along the Western Divide Highway, find the trail across the road from Redwood Meadow Campground. Parking is $5, camping $18/night.

Dome Rock: A relatively easy hike, walk five minutes uphill walk to a panorama of the Western Divide Country. About three miles south of Quaking Aspen along the Western Divide Highway, a left turn can be hard to spot as the sign is only visible if you are driving the opposite direction. If you go too far, flip around and you'll see it.

Tule River: Highway 190 provides great views through a steep river canyon. $10 parking fee.
Jordan Peak: Amoderate 60-foot climb leads to "Wow!" views of the Western Divide Country and the San Joaquin Valley. Fire lookout tower welcomes visitors from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Friday through Tuesday.

McIntyre Grove: Just beyond Camp Nelson. Follow the signs through town to the Belknap Campground. The trail through this magnificent grove starts beyond campsites 4 and 5. Lots of large sequoias. Camping: $18/night.

Black Mountain Grove: Hard to find but worth the trip. Start at the Camp Nelson exit, and follow the signs for Coy Flat Campground. Continue past the campground on Forest Road 21S94 about 4 ½ miles. At the junction with 21S12, turn right and continue five plus miles along a mountainside landscape interspersed with sequoias.

Check out Uncle Sam's take on the National Monument, too.
